Michelle Williams down on her luck with dating

All former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams has to say about her love life is that this year it has been, "so unfortunate."

Michelle WilliamsShe told People magazine this Thursday, "I haven't had any luck this year; it's been a couple of years since I have been in a really serious relationship. Every now and then you might think you are coming up on a winner, and then it doesn't work out."

However, it isn't any wonder that she hasn't really had time to find her match because she has been hard at work on her first solo R&B album Unexpected. She is really focused on the album but sometimes she feels she ought to be focusing her time and energy on some other things.

She says, "It's like, am I now falling in that percentage of women who could possibly be single for the rest of their life because of their career and or what they do? And I don't want that."

The singer's main problem is that she feels that most of the time men are simply scared just to say hello, most of the time she has to make the first move. Laughingly she says, "I'm human. I don't bite."

Finally Williams said, "I need a grown man. Somebody who is focused. Somebody who is working. Somebody who is loving life. Somebody who is strong. A charmer."

Sex and the City - what has it done to dating as we know it

233-5695977embeddedprod_affiliate101.jpgAccording to a recent study done by social dating site Engage.com, the series, and now the long anticipated and awaited movie, have had quite an impact on dating as we know it. It turns out that 80% of women find it more acceptable to have fun dating, while worrying less about finding a serious relationship. It seems women are also more likely than men to actually accept this.

Fifty two percent of women said they the series influenced their life, and 55% single women claimed the show influenced them to approach dating the way men do. Fifty one percent agreed with Samantha Jones' quote: "Who are we in bed is who we are in life. I've never met a man who was bad in bed who was good at life."

Thirty six percent stated they borrowed ideas from the show and used them on real life dating occasions, while 50% of study participants, mostly men, said they believed women who are big fans of the series are more likely to have sex on the first date. Yippeee! :)

Finally, 39% of women said they would end up with a woman friend as their soulmate, rather than with a man. Meanwhile, 59% said the show reminded them just how much their dating life depended on advice and perspective from personal friends.

Well, there you go. I don't know which group you'd fit into, but I personally found the series to be nothing more than above average entertainment with an occasional critical reflection on real life. I guess the good old fashioned "let's start with a chat, and see where life takes us" approach simply isn't a good enough anymore. If nothing else, from a man's perspective, at least more women are now willing to let go and indulge in sexual satisfaction on the first date. ;)

Dating sites for people with special needs and conditions

Among the many dating flavors, there dating sites who cater to the needs of singles with special needs, disabilities, or conditions. Here are a few examples from around the world:

SpecialSomeone.com.au

This is an Australian dating site which aims to create a friendly environment and an amazing tool for finding friendship acceptance and love (as they say). The site itself is as attempt to create a place for social assistance for singles with special needs, derived from trying to address a personal health situation. It's a free for all service, but can be upgraded to live webcam chat and instant messaging for a small cost. Basically, it's a place to find understanding, compassion, and new friends.

This is a US based dating site for singles with special conditions. Dating with a health condition (or STD) can be a bit awkward. When the time comes to reveal your "situation" to someone, the outcome is usually, well, unpredictable to say the least. It is said that people tend to gravitate towards like people, so having an environment in which it's easier to be honest with others is certainly welcome. Again, like the example above, the site is a result of an effort derived from a personal health related situation. The idea was to create an environment for singles with special needs and conditions, to improve their life quality through friendship and love. With over 11 different categories of health conditions covered (and growing), they've certainly done it.

National television puts speed dating to the test

Speed Dating is one of the most popular ways to meet a potential partner. At an event like this, single people get together and they switch partners at timed intervals.

How to Date in 2008A bell is sounded and then they switch to the next position, this is followed by a series of such place changes and people engage in various conversations. Basically these are a series of mini-dates. Any topic can be addressed excluding a person's profession and their address.

This week "The Early Show", an American early morning talk show, held such an event called, "How to Date in 2008." 11 men and woman took part. 8 Minute Dating is the company that organized this event, but the dates were shortened a bit so that everyone could get to know each other over the course of the show.

The organizer of 8 Minute Dating, David Cervini, explained the positive angles and procedures of this type of dating to anchor Julie Chen.

One of the couples actually hit it off quite well and they decided to continue their date after the show. Their tab at a New York restaurant was kindly picked up by The Early Show.
