Amber Blackburn recently single is quite surprised by the fact that Facebook helped her get back into the world of dating. She says, "My fiancé of two years just left me so I switched my relationship status to single."

On Facebook, a little broken heart pops up to show all your friends and acquaintances that you are back on the singles market, otherwise called declaring your relationship status. Basically if anyone looks at your profile knows whether you need a date Friday night.

"It's kind of silly but if you're trying to connect with somebody, you at least know if they're taken or not."

Some feel that this is just a little too public, because millions of people online can see if you are dating, engaged, in a complicated situation or even single. This for some people is a bit too much — while others feel that if you are in truly in love, why not spread the news?

Blackburn doesn't really see the negative side of proclaiming your status on Facebook, "I mean if you are talking to someone in a bar you'd tell them I'm taken or single. So why not do it on Facebook?"

What's more Amber is feeling the positive consequences, "It's this kid from high school and we used to hang out a lot. And he saw I was single and he facebooked me. I'm excited!"

All former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams has to say about her love life is that this year it has been, "so unfortunate."

She told People magazine this Thursday, "I haven't had any luck this year; it's been a couple of years since I have been in a really serious relationship. Every now and then you might think you are coming up on a winner, and then it doesn't work out."

However, it isn't any wonder that she hasn't really had time to find her match because she has been hard at work on her first solo R&B album Unexpected. She is really focused on the album but sometimes she feels she ought to be focusing her time and energy on some other things.

She says, "It's like, am I now falling in that percentage of women who could possibly be single for the rest of their life because of their career and or what they do? And I don't want that."

The singer's main problem is that she feels that most of the time men are simply scared just to say hello, most of the time she has to make the first move. Laughingly she says, "I'm human. I don't bite."

Finally Williams said, "I need a grown man. Somebody who is focused. Somebody who is working. Somebody who is loving life. Somebody who is strong. A charmer."

According to a recent study done by social dating site Engage.com, the series, and now the long anticipated and awaited movie, have had quite an impact on dating as we know it. It turns out that 80% of women find it more acceptable to have fun dating, while worrying less about finding a serious relationship. It seems women are also more likely than men to actually accept this.

Fifty two percent of women said they the series influenced their life, and 55% single women claimed the show influenced them to approach dating the way men do. Fifty one percent agreed with Samantha Jones' quote: "Who are we in bed is who we are in life. I've never met a man who was bad in bed who was good at life."

Thirty six percent stated they borrowed ideas from the show and used them on real life dating occasions, while 50% of study participants, mostly men, said they believed women who are big fans of the series are more likely to have sex on the first date. Yippeee!

Finally, 39% of women said they would end up with a woman friend as their soulmate, rather than with a man. Meanwhile, 59% said the show reminded them just how much their dating life depended on advice and perspective from personal friends.

Well, there you go. I don't know which group you'd fit into, but I personally found the series to be nothing more than above average entertainment with an occasional critical reflection on real life. I guess the good old fashioned "let's start with a chat, and see where life takes us" approach simply isn't a good enough anymore. If nothing else, from a man's perspective, at least more women are now willing to let go and indulge in sexual satisfaction on the first date.
