The ugly side of dating

Dating has many colors, sometimes there are great dates you would like to remember forever, and then there are the horrible ones that can ruin your dating career forever.

The ugly side of dating

One single woman, Elizabeth Aven, 30, of Oklahoma City has had a lot of dating experiences. One of her worst dates was when she went out on a date with a guy who seemed "nice and normal." Her mother always advised her not to invite men to her house unless she knew him well. Regardless, she invited this guy over after dinner and he started to get too friendly only after a few minutes.

She said, "I just told him he was going to need to back off." He seemed annoyed but he backed off. "About 10 minutes later, he was like, 'OK, I've got to go,' and he just left." Aven kicked her feet and munched on a snack, happy that he was gone.

"Maybe 45 minutes later, I get a knock at my door and it was a cop," said Aven. "She said, 'Hey we got a call from someone that you were going to hurt yourself or, I don't know, try and kill yourself."

"I was like, 'I have no idea what you're talking about at all. I'm just sitting here just hanging out, watching TV."

Finally, she explained to the officer how bad her date had been and the two women just rolled their eyes together.

Dating movie stars isn't as great as it seems

Dating movie stars isnMost women think they would be in heaven if they were to date George Clooney. Lisa Snowdown, one of his ex-girlfriends would tell you otherwise.

The model and actress told The Sun: "I've been celibate for a year and starting to think I may never have sex again. It's not something I planned but I just don't get asked out anymore."

Most people would not think to blame Clooney but she says that most men are intimidated by the fact that she used to date such a famous star and are not up to the challenge of following in Clooney's footsteps.

Michelle Williams also had a bad bought with dating a movie star, though her story is a sadder one. Seven months ago her ex Heath Ledger died of an overdose. It took her a fairly long time to move on and give love another try.

Though they were not together when Ledger died she was deeply moved by his death.

She has now fallen in love with director Spike Jonze. This was an unexpected love match but things seem to be moving along very nicely.

Text messaging killing the magic of dating

Text messaging killing the magic of datingNearly everyone nowadays owns a cell phone and much of the drama of dating and relationships takes place through text messaging: pick-ups, conversations, foreplay, fights and even breaking up occur in a series of short messages.

Sometimes one couple will not even have a single moment of face-to-face conversation.

Communication studies professor Rebecca Sullivan says that this phenomenon has good points and bad points. It depends on weather a person can adjust to this modern way of dating or not.

She says, "We have entered a whole new realm of tiered dating."

"It used to be you'd have a phone call and if it worked out, great. Now, you go from e-mail to text messaging to 'OK, I'll let you into my Facebook site,' to 'maybe we might actually have a phone call and then a coffee date.'"

At this point the dinner date has not even been addressed.

Sullivan says, "On the one hand, for the anonymous encounter aficionado, the times have never been better. But for the person seeking a relationship, you've got to really jump through some hoops. There are a lot of gateways towards your perfect mate now."

DoYouDesi - tradition of Desi arranged marriages now online

desi.jpgEven though the western world has almost completely turned to online dating as means to find potential partners, there are still cultures from other parts of the world that nurture old traditions, such as arranged marriages. This is still particularly present in the Desi (South Asian) population. An entrepreneur in the UK, of Desi origin, has started a very specific online "dating" service that is all about providing a more sophisticated, modern way for people to find potential partners for an arranged marriage.

The service is called DoYouDesi.com, and the man behind it is Sonny Kumar.

"www.DoYouDesi.com has been established to bring together people of the Desi community, of which there are 50 million globally. South Asian's have been social butterflies for thousands of years and so such a gregarious community is bound to hit it off online, it has always been a natural progression in my eyes…"

The idea is to create a community of people where each individual is vouched for by his friends, which helps bring people together that indeed belong together in marriage. In a way, it's only natural since in reality most people meet someone special by being introduced to them through a mutual friend.

Anonymous phonecalls through BeeMask

beemask_logo_beta1-493-x-157.jpgFeeling safe and protecting your privacy is one of the major obstacles that still keep people from using online dating services. Basically, if you want to move on to direct communication by phone, at least one of the two parties has to allow the other to see their phone number. There is a way for a phone conversation to take place without either party knowing the other's phone number. The solution is offered by BeeMask.

It's a free service that relies on a member registering their mobile number within their profile on a dating site. If both people are registered as BeeMask users, phone communication happens simply by sharing a connection code word. Two people need to make sure to enter the code word on the BeeMask site at the same time, for a connection to happen. If one of the participants happens to end the call, the other will not be able to simply call that person back, since they won't know the number.

So, there we have it - a way to have safer online dating by protecting the privacy of our own phone number.
