Cupid's X Factors - a new online dating service

cupidsxfactors.jpgThis dating service is so new, it's still in early alpha. Visitors can pre-register on Cupid's X Factors for a 30 day free-trial and test what the service boasts to be a unique matchmaking system. Their matching algorithm is based upon 10 life-style factors. They are:

  • age
  • health
  • appearance
  • personality
  • status
  • education
  • employment
  • finance
  • goals
  • sex

When officially launched, the service will offer many unique features such as personal journals, emails, chat rooms, video chat, a potentials garden and, a new thing, the stackable search engine. Official beta launch is scheduled for June 1, 2008, but as I mentioned you can pre-register now. Although the service is nationwide (US), its primary target audience is in Florida, California, and New York.

Group dating - the new approach to dating

This social networks thing really sparks a lot of new ideas doesn't it. The latest social networking inspired online dating project is Ignighter.com, a dating service started by a couple of college buddies (fresh out of college), who tried to introduce a new way to date, more in line with the new (younger) generation.

Basically, the authors - Dan and Adam, wanted a hybrid between Facebook and a classic online dating site. The idea was to create an environment that enables people to share contacts between different social groups but with a goal of creating an atmosphere of potential interaction between singles who are looking to meet other singles. They found classic online dating sites a bit antisocial (compared to sites like Facebook), so Ignighter was on its way to existence. I guess the following graphical representation of what the service provides tells it best:

I must say I like the idea. Personally, even though approaching a woman individually is a more direct (arguably more effective) way, I have always found it easier to meet a woman I liked in an informal social environment. Ignighter sounds interesting, so give it a try! BTW, they are present on Facebook as well.

FlirtingInTraffic.com (F.I.T.) in search for a buyer

FlirtingInTraffic.com has been in business for two years and now they are searching for a buyer "willing and capable of managing and growing the brand."

FlirtingInTraffic.comTo date, they've receiving over seventy pieces of media coverage from across the U.S. — including coverage from such media as CNN, Fox, NBC, and ABC — and the new owner will have minimal trouble explaining users what the site is all about.

FlirtingInTraffic.com, or the so called "F.I.T," is a dating and social networking site put in place to connect drivers who catch each other's eye but have no way of contacting them. Site members — mostly from U.S., but also from Canada and Ireland — can complete an online biography, upload a headshot or a picture of their car and order or print a Flirting ID bumper sticker. Drivers can flirt from behind the wheel or take it further by jotting down the ID and get acquainted in a safe and comfortable online setting.

According to the official release, reasons for selling the site stem from the umbrella companies' overall growth and "inability to dedicate the time and resources necessary to continually keep pace with its demand."

CamLink - speed dating, but faster

camlink.gif

Speed dating has been around for a while and has gained significant popularity probably due to the fact that singles can avoid spending too much time hanging around datins sites exchanging mails, or at bars and clubs weekend after weekend. CamLink, a New York based company founded in 2007, has decided to speed things up a bit more by introducing web cams into the speed dating process. Speed dating now has the online dimension, becoming online speed dating. Dusan wrote about something similar a while back about the online speed dating event organized by SpeedDate.com.

Each Online Speed Date session consists of a number of mini-dates, ranging from 1 minute (the so-called "turbo dates") to 5 minutes for a typical session. CamLink also hosts private events for parties with a particular interest. Events are theme based. During the date participants vote if they like the person they're speed dating with. If both users vote "yes" the system detects the match and users are prompted to select which contact information they are willing to share. Users are able to communicate through the website, or through email, screen names or phone number if they feel comfortable enough. The next step is in their hands.

Registration is free, so if you've tried speed dating and want to take it to the next level, there's no excuse not to try this. Now, off you go to the stylist, beef up your appearance … oh, and get a web cam if you don't have one. ;)
