Dating etiquette of the 21st century; Not much has changed

Often times that great date you have been waiting for all week turns out to be a flop.

21st century datingJerry Seinfeld, the well-known comedian once said, "Dating is pressure and tension. What is a date but a job interview that lasts all night?" Nowadays, in the modern world there are no clear rules of etiquette when the roles of men and women are changing.

1600 people over 18 were polled in the UK to see what their views are on dating etiquette and most of these British young people were pretty traditional.

Manners are the most important and of course a good sense of humor. Both genders felt that getting inebriated on a first date is out of the question. Men like to have a date that pays attention to them, while women still like when the man pays for dinner — nearly 60% of women said they would feel pretty uncomfortable if they had to pay the bill.

Which is most surprising is that only 13% would stay the night. The older people said they would go further than kissing their date on the cheek. Once again women gave men the upper hand where 40% felt that the man is the one who needs to arrange the next date.

According to experts this survey shows that traditional etiquette is the best way to go, even though there are exceptions - it is much easier just to stick to the few simple rules. It's just a case of "the more things change the more they stay the same."

Singles traveling together after only a few dates

romance on a beach

This trend was noticed when employees of a certain hotel chain noticed that they were meeting many couples, who had only dated a couple times, taking vacations together.

The people at a luxury Canadian hotel chain decided to look into this trend a little further. The users of the personal ads online at Lavalife were surveyed. 19 percent of women and 27 percent of men said that they would go on holiday with someone after having dated them only for a month.

These people are called "holidaters" and now the hotel chain is creating an "icebreaker" package to cater to these types of daters. These packages are not too romantic, but there are many activities allowing the daters to get to know each other like picnics and ice-skating.

The reasons people date online

online datingIn the past most people would meet their future partner in high-school and get married after graduation. That has changed and most people find themselves obligated to finish at least four years of university, with marriage getting put on hold. Now, the common age for marriage is about thirty, if they get married in the first place. However, it is much more difficult to find a date after finishing university because there are no longer parties and other events where you can meet people, which is where online dating comes in.

Dating today is no longer for anti-social "losers." Now dating online takes a lot of the hassle out of trying to meet someone. By dating online you avoid having to spend time in noisy bars among drunks, and it's a lot cheaper. You can also escape your parents and friends hooking you up with their single acquaintances.

The best quality of online dating is that is extremely efficient, you can meet many people very quickly. There is no other way of meeting people so fast. You are more likely to find exactly the right match for you online.

As the saying goes, "there are plenty of fish in the sea" and online dating allows you to pick and choose which fish you would like.

Singapore's government helps setting off romance among young people

dating in Singapore

Just like other developed countries, Singapore has a problem to make its citizens mate and multiply. Simply speaking modern young people want to build their carrier first, and think about the family later. However, as we all know, sometimes it's too late, especially for girls.

Hence, Singapore's government is organizing courses to help set off romance among young people:

The course, which is in its second year at two polytechnic institutes, is the latest of many, mostly futile, campaigns by the government to get its citizens to mate and multiply. Its popularity last year has led to talk of expansion through the higher education system.

Can this succeed? It's like government's interfering in people's lives for (arguably) their own goo. Potential benefits government could provide are certainly welcomed for the young people which are at the start of their carriers… Check out the full article on IHT's website.

The new dating comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" has audiences screaming with laughter

News of this dating comedy has already spread by word of mouth. There is quite a bit of nudity in this film but it only serves to shock audiences into laughing. Most of the flashing is done by star Jason Segel.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is a film by budding director Nicholas Stoller. The producer of this movie, Judd Apatow, has produced hits like, "Knocked Up," "The 40 Year Old Virgin," "Superbad," and "Anchorman."

Most of Apatow's movies are signified by their in depth attention to characters. There are really no evil characters in his movies, with most of them ending up being sympathetic in some way by the end of the movie.

The movie is based around Peter Bretter, who composes music for TV shows. He has a supposed girlfriend Sarah Marshall. Peter does everything for Sarah, and she dumps him anyway, for a posh British rocker. To get over the break-up Peter escapes to Hawaii, where he meets the couple on their honeymoon. He stays, but is miserable. At the end he meets a waitress at the resort and makes quite a few new friends.

This comedy is most appropriate for adults. It is not the typical dating-movie, but it has all the elements that make these kinds of movies what they are. So far, it has left audiences wiping away tears of laughter.
