Credit Crunch has little effect on first date spending

gi_whopaysgif.jpgA UK dating site, FreeDating.co.uk, has conducted a small survey trying to get a clearer picture about how the ongoing economic crisis is affecting the lives of daters. It seems that the Credit Crunch hasn't had that much of an effect on how much singles are spending on their first dates.

Only a minority of men expect to spend less on first dates right now, while the majority of men expect to pick-up the tab. Ironically, much less women expect this from a man (about 34%), so basically guys, it seems we are … suckers! :)

"This research shows that the traditionally-held view that the man should pay for a first date is alive and kicking - even more so amongst the younger generation. Furthermore, guys are not letting the credit crunch hold them back when it comes to splashing out on a first date" (Dan Winchester, FreeDating.co.uk)

The press release goes on to give readers a break down of how much men in particular UK and London areas are willing to spend.

Having been done in the UK, it's hard to say whether all the finding from this small study can be applied on other parts of the world. How much would you be willing to spend on your first date? And would you consider yourself picking-up the tab to be a normal expectation?
