300 dates in one day - when is it enough?

speeddate-s.jpgThe title sunmmarizes the story of Francesca Salcido, who went on 300 dates in a single day with ease. Naturally, it's all about speed dating.

Her speedy adventure began online on SpeedDate.com, an online speed dating site which we covered many times before and which believes that 90 seconds is all it takes for someone to recognize whether they like someone and would be interested in socializing with. Some go even further and state 30 seconds is enough, such as Stephen Stokols, CEO of SpeedDate's rival WooMe.com.

Even though it's all about webcams which allow users to get the visual impression of someone, in the end it still comes down to chemistry - it's either there or it isn't!

Basically, if you like someone you'll want as much time as you can get with them, whereas if you don't like someone, seconds are enough. Well, I guess it makes sense - why would you want to stay if you don't like.

Automated timers at SpeedDate and WooMe cut off online video chats after as little as 90 seconds or as long as three minutes. Those that felt romance kindling during curt exchanges can later reconnect to fan the flames.

SpeedDate now sets up about 100,000 virtual date on a daily basis, for users in more than 200 countries, with most of this happening through Facebook and MySpace applications, embedded into users' pages and profiles.

Even though there are success stories from using speed dating to meet potential relationship partners, most people are satisfied to be able to quickly and easily meet a lot of new friends. Majority still turns to "traditional" online dating services to look for relationship partners.
