Use caution when taking part in Internet dating
It has almost become normal thing to meet men online but it seems that many women are not using the ounce of caution they should when they meet these men in person.
Women will often chat with a man for months and then agree to meet them. However, this will have to change as there has been an increase of attacks on women who go on dates with their online "friends."
According to the Auckland Sexual Abuse Help Foundation, women that meet men online will chat with them for months gaining the feeling that they "know" the men. This is what leads to them letting their guard down when they do agree to meet them. The problem is that lately there have been some horrifying outcomes to these dates.
Crisis service manager Kate Brady Kean says, "The reality is that women don't really know their Internet dates. By removing their usual defences women are leaving themselves open to assault. A woman's first response is often: 'I can't believe he did this, he seemed like such a nice man.'"
The Auckland Sexual Abuse Help Foundation will be furthering it's research on the impact of Internet dating.
