AroundIs - Google Android Dating application

matchnotification_small.pngWhile Google Android is still quite new, there are already attempts to create dating applications for this platform. AroundIs is a Google Android dating application that is going to try to overcome the usual problem of online dating, and especially mobile dating, and that is missing an opportunity to meet someone you happen to like simply because they/you weren't around physically.

Standard dating search enables you to find singles that match your criteria, but AroundIs added additional enhancements such as "in radar range" notification (someone matched is near), real-time chat with them once detected, option to setup date or exchange contacts if you like them.

Things that differentiate AroundIs from other mobile dating applications are, according to them:

  • truly mobile dating
  • truly instant communication
  • no SMS usage, thus the service is free (apart from data transfer charges by operator)
  • secure and discrete (change status from available, to "do not disturb" or invisible)

The application is quite simple and tends to the basic needs of online dating which includes registration, search, status, notifications and bookmarking.

If you use a mobile device with a Google Android platform, you can sign-up for beta testing here.

Sarah Larson is moving on after dating George Clooney

George Clooney and Sara Larson have recently broken up. Though the split is not really wearing Sara down, she is moving "forward." They dated for about a year until Clooney broke it off about a month ago.

Sarah LarsonA quote from People magazine says, "You just move forward. She's a strong, very smart girl who I think will make it through pretty much anything." One of Sara's acquaintances says that Sara dealt with this whole situation very well because she never let the fame get to her head. She says, "Your whole life changes overnight, but she maintained that down-to-earth quality." According to Morss Sarah would always say, "Yes, I'm dating George, but I want to be known for Sarah."

Larson has now been involved with the Aid for AIDS of Nevada charity for four years. Morss says, "This past AIDS walk held in April, she raised over $25,000 for the event through friends… It's hard in this world to find people who are so authentic."

About Larson's future after dating George Clooney, all Morss has to say is, "She's still Sarah, and she maintained all of her relationships with friends and family. When you don't change to go into something like that, there's not a whole lot of change to come out of it."

Approaching the dating scene in the old-fashioned way

Gizela Rushansky had been married for 30 years and now she is learning to be single again. Gizela was born in Russia and has had to learn several new languages as she has live in quite a few different countries.

Approaching the dating scene in the old-fashioned wayWith a laugh she says, "To learn to be single again is harder than learning a new language."

She tried to date online but she did not have any luck. She says, "You have to be very dedicated to try online dating." "You have to be more aggressive and have more free time for it," she continued.

But then some single friends of hers introduced her to a new idea, where it was possible to meet people and interact with them and to do it while doing what she loves best - dancing.

Dick Syatt decided to try and organize an event that would be based around the old-fashioned way of meeting people. He is now hosting a singles dance every Thursday night in at a local nightclub. On the first night about 450 single women and men showed up to the event. Tunes from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, and 80's were played and everyone was up on their feet dancing.

Rushansky was most interested in the dancing, "It's a great, great opportunity to meet somebody while you are doing something you love and for me I love to dance."

Youniverse adds online dating … kind of

youniverse_logo.gif

Youniverse, the social network that uses visual methods to determine your personality type, has added the Dating Quiz to help you find matches based on similarities between your and others' visual dating DNA (what they call your personality profile).

Basically, you choose one of the offered pictures that best corresponds to what you'd answer to a series of questions, and there are plenty of questions. In fact, I took the quiz and spent some 15 minutes answering, to be presented in the end with a profile assessment, accompanied with an image box showing members that are compatible with me. It's all very nice, except that compatibility matches included men, as well as women, and I wasn't asked for my sexual preferences, so that kind of bothered me. In the end, though, maybe they just didn't want to complicate things, and simply gave matches withing both sexes, and let me decide whom I was interested in. It would be nice to be able to filter the matching results though. After that, well, contact the members you are interested in and take it from there.

Even though this is a social network, it's only natural to bring in a personal (dating) dimension to it, but having just a dating quiz doesn't really make this a social dating network (service), so I hope additional dating application layers are coming soon.

Anyway, the quiz is something that will easily take about 15 minutes of your time, and is actually fun. Membership on the site is free, so if you feel like socializing, join today.
