Facebook and MySpace taking the fun out of dating

It used to take a couple of dates or more to find out about a person, what they like and dislike, their favorite movies, quotes, and special causes. There are some online matchmaking sites that have a taken a bit of the fun out of dating, but social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace have completely killed the fun of getting to know someone.

Pangborn of the Dave Matthews Band says, "Facebook and MySpace are kind of robbing the mysteries out of dating. You find out all these little things about people that you might otherwise let go. If I see someone's favorite quote is a Dave Matthews lyric or favorite band is Jimmy Buffet, I automatically have an image of them. And it kind of lingers."

Experts however, do not think that this is such a big problem. We are not actually seeking people exactly like ourselves, but we do find partners that are more suited to us through the use of these social networking sites.

Les Parrot a psychologist and family therapist says, "We know from research that opposites don't really attract. The truth is we're drawn to people that are like us, and the more we have in common — especially on matters that mean the most to us — the easier time we're going to have."

So maybe it is a good idea after all to have a look at your next date's site on Facebook or MySpace!
