Online dating services vs social networks

This is the subject I've been thinking about for some time now. You see, with all the attention social networks are getting these days, one would think online dating services, especially those that require paid subscription, are set to die. But is that really the case? Few points I want to make:
- First, unlike social network users, people that use dating services pretty much know what they want and what to expect from the service. Usually they don't want or have time to poke around and inform their followers what they had for dinner.
- Second, it's a matter of scale, but in the other sense than you may think. When it comes to online dating, more doesn't necessarily mean better. As I just said, online dating service users want to meet and date someone new, rather than spend their free time online.
- Last but not the least, those that are looking foe niche audience can always sign for some niche-targeting dating services, rather than browse around thousands of groups on the major social sites.
Now before I let you go, I need to point out I've nothing against social networks. On the contrary, they rock. Still, when it comes to meeting someone online for a romance or an affair, I still prefer specialized websites. At the end it's your call and I guess the best solution is to use both social networks alongside "traditional" dating services.
Any comments?
